The article relates the dynamics of social memory, critical interpretations around heritage and gender as a transversal analytical category that questions the previous ones. It does so from the reflection on a series of short audiovisual documentaries that investigate a project carried out by a neighborhood assembly of a medium-sized city in the province of Buenos Aires, Argentina. This project aims to build memory on the figure of Ibis Villar: a seamstress, communist militant and artist who, as pointed out, “broke local male political molds” in the mid-20th century. In coordination with several people and institutions, the assembly negotiated the construction and placement of a monument to Ibis Villar on the facilities of the Railway Station. The methodological theoretical approach of the work takes up contributions from studies on collective memory, recent history and research through artistic practice. The analysis that is developed makes it possible to notice the ways in which the actions of the assembly seek to incorporate the gender perspective in patrimonialization processes, bring forward established stories about local history, leave material traces in the urban space, as well as mobilize reflections upon the notion of citizenship, the role of the State and how to participate in the production of the city
