This article examines the judicial reform projects promoted by international lending agencies in Latin America during the 1980s and 1990s, as well as the stance taken by the FJA in response to these initiatives. We hypothesize that judicial workers organized within the Federation devised an alternative model of justice with the aim of democratizing their functions, a debate they extended to a broad spectrum of workers through collaboration with national and regional union networks in which the organization played an active role. The analysis employs a qualitative methodology based on union sources, periodical publications, and interviews with key informants.
