This article presents the results of experiences gained during the implementation of a university outreach project endorsed and subsidized by the Outreach Institute of the National University of Villa María (UNVM). The project was carried out by the UNVM's Socio-Environmental Health Team (EISSA). The objectives were to understand the relationship between the environment and health based on the perception of damage associated with the presence of a rubbish dump located in front of two educational institutions. The main problem identified in the neighborhood community is the difficulty in imagining their natural spaces as clean and healthy. Since 2019, the persistence of rubbish dumps in the surrounding area has consolidated a “naturalised” view of pollution, making it necessary to work on constructing new representations and raising awareness about the possibility of recovering a different and better environment. In a context marked by socio-economic and environmental difficulties, where inequalities become visible, coordinating research and outreach activities allows for a comprehensive approach to the concept of health. The project is based on participatory research methodology, oriented towards action and social transformation, promoting collective participation and the joint generation of knowledge to address community issues. Within this framework, a series of meetings was held between residents, neighborhood institutions and EISSA. The article summarizes the experiences gained during the implementation of the project, which focused on the reappropriation of natural community spaces in a neighborhood of the city of Villa María (Córdoba, Argentina).
