This article aims to characterize the cuadrilleros of the small and medium vineyards of San Juan by understanding their role in the production process. Although there are many studies on labor intermediation and it is considered a key actor at harvest time, there is a gap with respect to its figure. In addition, in moments of great technological changes in the activity we wonder about his future. The methodology used in this work is based on structured interviews with 36 cuadrilleros of San Juan and an extensive bibliographical review of his figure. The cuadrillero is an intermediary between the rural worker and the owner of the farm. He is a worker who at the same time recruits, organises, supervises and controls other workers, especially during the harvest, as well as taking on the task of transferring the grapes to the winery. Generally, it is part of informal labour relations (as an employee and as an employer) in tasks that demand great physical effort due to the scarce incorporation of technologies and labour legislation does not include them as a specific subject. This characterization aims to contribute to the understanding of the cuadrillero within the agro-industrial sector and to the identification of its problems, to be approached later from different public policies.
