In this work we propose to examine the way the relation between the terms “politics” and “culture” is conceived as two perspectives of the collective action, the mobilization of resources and that of the social movements. Though these approaches arose in a political similar context they present substantive differences in his way of understanding this link. From the analysis we observed that the approach of the social movements presents major explanatory potential when placing the interaction of the analyzed dimensions and avoiding to reduce or to subordinate one of the dimensions to other one. For the contemporary democracies the use of an approach that emphasizes the complex field of interactions between politics and culture presents the explanatory benefit of being able to catch the way in which past practical policies fuse with the present ones.
