The present investigation has the objective of investigating clinical tools, training and existing knowledge of the nursing sector about the population with which they work within the scope of public hospitals. Through a qualitative-quantitative approach, nurses who work in Maternity and NICU were interviewed. After the analysis, it was concluded that the professionals who work in the Neonatology and Maternity sectors have little academic training in relation to psychic and emotional aspects of the target population, as well as a lack of knowledge of the benefits of therapeutic communication, both for them and for themselves for families who attend. Likewise, the results show that professionals go through, in their daily work, numerous stressful situations that call them to adopt individual and artisan strategies to face them.
