El MERCOSUR y la inserción externa de Uruguay y Paraguay, 1994-2015

Abstract

El trabajo ofrece una interpretación del comportamiento de los flujos comerciales en MERCOSUR desde la perspectiva de las economías relativamente pequeñas, apoyado en una batería de indicadores apropiada, y en la discusión de los resultados con la literatura especializada. En particular, se propuso verificar si el MERCOSUR propició una creciente dependencia, y si se vieron afectadas las posibilidades de inserción internacional de estos países por mantenerse dentro del esquema regional. El resultado principal es el rechazo de ambas hipótesis, al tiempo que se plantean interrogantes interesantes para avanzar dentro de esta perspectiva.The paper offers an interpretation of the behavior of trade flows in MERCOSUR from the perspective of relatively small economies, supported by a battery of appropriate indicators, and in the discussion of the results with specialized literature. In particular, it was proposed to verify if MERCOSUR fostered an increasing dependency, and if the possibilities of international insertion of these countries were affected by remaining within the regional scheme. The main result is the rejection of both hypotheses, while interesting questions are posed to advance within this perspective.
