Plataformas audiovisuales: Una perspectiva global y situada sobre Netflix y los ecosistemas audiovisuales locales

Abstract

Hace ya más de una década que las plataformas audiovisuales están reforzando la integración económica de los mercados mundiales y sus niveles de concentración. Este proceso empieza a mostrar signos de maduración y a hacer ostensibles sus profundas implicancias económicas y culturales. El artículo se centra en Netflix por su carácter emblemático y su estrategia de expansión, con una perspectiva global y situada que se interroga por las experiencias de regulación, como así también por lo que Latinoamérica representa para Netflix y viceversa. Finalmente, se señalan las continuidades que el fenómeno guarda con otros trayectos, como las sucesivas transformaciones en los procesos de producción y circulación de sentido, y la inserción periférica de Latinoamérica en el sistema global. Por eso, también se evocarán algunas contribuciones claves del pensamiento latinoamericano para comprender el significado profundo de estas transformaciones.For over a decade, audiovisual platforms have been reinforcing the economic integration of global markets and their levels of concentration. As this process matures, its profound economic and cultural impacts are becoming clear. This article focuses on Netflix due to its emblematic character and its expansion strategy, with a global and situated perspective that questions the regulatory experiences, as well as what Latin America represents for Netflix and vice versa. Finally, the article explores the continuities between this phenomenon and other paths, such as the successive transformations in the processes of production and circulation of meaning, and the peripheral insertion of Latin America in the global system. For this reason, some key contributions of Latin American thought will be evoked to illuminate the deep significance of these changes.
