This paper deals with some reflections on the concepts that have been applied by Egyptologists to the literary texts written during the Ramesside period. I will deconstruct some of the categories and terminology used by 19th-century and 20th-century Egyptologists and then explore how those concepts were applied to primary sources. As a starting point for the discussion, I will consider several interpretations of the story of the Two Brothers, written by the scribe Inena during the Dynasty XIX. I hope that a review of the historiographical production dedicated to the study of this text will show connections between the first publications and more recent approaches.
