This paper describes and analyzes political relations among Mapuches and State in Northwestern Chubut. To achieve emphasizes a view from a local perspective, built based on fieldwork material from 2003 to this part. It also presents a historical and ethnographic approach which underlines the action of local power structures and its personifications: local brokers. The work argues that local brokers are linked effectively to the areas of social reproduction and the Mapuche ritual cycle, and build from there positions of prestige and power. It provides a general description on mapuche culture and its history, and describes some present situations to emphasize the relevance of leadership production process on local politics. Thus concludes in the importance of practices that allow the concentration of power and give rise to processes of political domination and subordination. Therefore, social power construction and domination practices based on brokers and State intervention over mapuche social reproduction are analyzed.
