In this work we approach the notion of pain in two Argentine philosophers: Macedonio Fernández (1874-1952) and Vicente Fatone (1903-1962). At first, we deal with the criticism that M. Fernández undertakes about two types of pain, the physical and the ontological. In a second moment, we look at the configurations about the pain outlined by V. Fatone in light of his interpretation of the Buddhist precepts. We mention two conceptions about pain, pain with ontological scope –primitive Buddhism and Hînayâna–, and pain related to the empirical reality –Nâgârjuna, within Mahâyâna Buddhism–. Both thinkers propose different projects regarding the possibility of avoiding pain, both from a theoretical and practical elaboration. Such is the case that the passage through experience of the pain will take place from an attention on the body either from an analgesic of it, from a series of metaphysical exercises or from operations of stripping away empirical reality.
