This work addresses the importance of analyzing vegetal remains of past social systems recovered in archaeological sites, focusing on the archaeobotanical record of Los Viscos rockshelter (El Bolson Valley, Department of Belén, Catamarca) as an interdisciplinary case study. We consider useful to share this guide bringing together Archaeology and Botany. This interdisciplinary approach facilitates the study of this archaeobotanical collection in order to find the "message" that peoples of the past have conveyed through archaeobotanical records; to achieve a better understanding of the differences between the daily life of past and present inhabitants of the valleys, and to infer the context of use of particular plant species. It is worth noting that this dialogue among different disciplines poses particular challenges for archaeologists, who need to design adequate strategies in order to overcome them.
