We explore some of the issues that university students face when accomplishing reading and writing tasks in the context of a one semester course taught at a national public university located in the surrounding area of the city of Buenos Aires. We have documented, analyzed and interpreted data from a first-year course called "Epistemologies of Social and Human Sciences and Other Ways of Knowing". This course was taught for the first time in virtual format in 2020, due to COVID19. We concentrate on the processes followed by four students, and we interpret their work by taking into account an interdisciplinary framework (self-governed educational pedagogies; Argentinian social psychology, and institutional analysis). We end by presenting some conceptual issues arising from our analysis related to the implications of taking an interdisciplinary framework.
