This paper analyzes the territorial role of an intermediate city in France (Rodez), which is an interesting geographical object as a place of "production" agriculture, but also "alternative" agricultures. The study is based on two approaches: the first through “intermediate cities” models these ones according to their functional role in the territory. The second presents the diversity of forms of agriculture through the theory of "territorial pacts" which makes it possible to identify the coexistence of different agricultural models of development. The intermediate city thus appears as an essential center for at least three of these agricultural development models, it is also a space of interactions between them, of opposition and demarcation, of course, but also of complementarities and even cooperations.
