In 2022, a large number of maps and other graphic and visual records were discovered at the “Paco Urondo” University Cultural Centre. After an initial inspection, it was determined that these graphic materials belonged to the Argentine historian and researcher José Luis Romero. Once the materials were deposited in the Library of the Institute of Geography at the Faculty of Philosophy and Letters of the University of Buenos Aires, the Project for Strategic Development entitled “Visual Forms of Historiographical Knowledge: The Cartographic Collection of José Luis Romero” was established. An interdisciplinary team of women researchers—geographers, historians, and librarians—was convened for this purpose. This article aims to make known the materials that accompanied Romero throughout his academic life, as well as to account for the circumstances surrounding the discovery of the collection and the initial progress achieved within the framework of the project.
