The article proposes an approach to the topic of social differentiation based on the vitalist texts of Georg Simmel. Examining the notion of “ideal world” I develop a perspective on the autonomization of the heterogeneous areas of modern social life, such as, for example, art, science, religion, among others. From this point of view, I show a series of dimensions of modern love as a differentiated universe of meaning. Thus, I focus on the Simmelian interpretations of Plato's philosophy in order to underline the historical singularity of eroticism in Modernity. Next, I discuss the substantialism contained in the feminine-masculine duality on which Simmel's perspective is based. At the end of the article, I highlight core elements of the developed analysis and point out some of the limitations of this theory about love.
