This paper presents a review of the literature that has examined women’s political representation in Argentina between 1919 –the year of Julieta Lanteri’s first candida- cy for a legislative seat –and the onset of the last military dictatorship in 1976. The review is structured around two key dimensions of political representation: the descripti- ve –concerning the composition of legislative bodies– and the substantive –concerning legislative activity. How have these dimensions of representation been treated in the li- terature? Which of them has predominated in the various analyses? What aspects remain unexplored? It includes studies addressing the national, provincial, and municipal levels of government.
