In a period of accelerated changes in the agricultural sector, cooperatives must rethink their identity and doctrinal coherence, their new role in sustainable development, the mechanisms to add value to their production and the strategies to use to continue being an important factor. rooted in the territory. In this sense, these associations cannot limit themselves to the marketing of primary production or the supply of consumer items, but starting from industrialization they must look towards the shelf to consolidate their position in the agri-food chains. Within them, the dairy industry was developed, among other places in the Córdoba basin, where the Cooperativa Agrícola Federal Limitada, today called Cooperativa Agrícola Tambera de James Craik, the object of analysis of this article, has been based since 1926. Using a methodology that privileges qualitative techniques and interviews with members of the Board of Directors and some partners, the history of this almost century-old entity and its emblematic brand El Craikense is studied. The productive reconversion undertaken in recent decades is analyzed, venturing into agribusiness; the strong technological process that it implements, and compliance with cooperative principles, in terms of horizontal and vertical integration with other companies in the Villa María dairy basin and its connection with the James Craik community, in particular with its University.
