In a recent article, Liliana Brezzo and Maria Laura Salinas call attention to the asynchronous path of Paraguayan Church historiography, in relation to neighboring countries. Reaffirming this proposition, we intend to focus on the role of country priest in the diocese of Paraguay as it relates to the construction of identity and the State, both colonial and republican. At the same time, precisely because this issue is so scarcely developed, it intends also to list sources and possible paths that can be researched. While the proposed period is wide, from the early eighteenth century to the 60s of the twentieth century, we will focus primarily on the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries.
