Within the Public Archaeology approach, the uses, significance, and meanings given to the archaeological heritage are identified, allowing to detect perspectives and interests that may be disruptive in a given territory and, when possible, conflicts or alliances that may arise between the social agents involved. The objective of this article is to assess the public use of the archaeological heritage of the Sanagasta Department, La Rioja (Argentina) through the application of the Archaeological Project of Sustainable Tourism. The enhancement of archaeological sites through the design and planning of cultural circuits generates a series of negotiations between actors who have different discourses and valorations of heritage. Among the main conclusions are that the discourse that is imposed is that delimited by political and academic hegemonies, however, new forms of dialogue are sought in order to generate inclusive and public management of heritage.
