This article aims to analyze the journalistic and critical practices on comics developed by Alberto Pío Cognigni in the humor magazine Hortensia, particularly the stances through which he proposed norms for the production of graphic narratives and introduced reflections on the state of that cultural field. Between 1971 and 1983, the humorist and editor made use of extensive paratextual production -integrated into specific sections of the Córdoba-based publication- to imagine a type of reading community, restoring a shared and intergenerational body of knowledge and aesthetic experiences, while also questioning prevailing forms of comics production that constituted the dominant editorial offer in Argentina at the time, against which he proposed alternative ways of creating graphic narratives. Through his work in Hortensia, Cognigni contributed to the development of a space of cultural circulation around comics, operating through various discursive forms such as news articles, critical essays, and comics as metalanguage. The theoretical and methodological approach of this paper draws primarily from elements of the sociology of culture (Raymond Williams, Pierre Bourdieu), and the empirical corpus consists of a series of publications illustrative of the established textual typology.
