The aim of this paper is to provide a review of the various tensions that prevail between oral culture and literate culture in Latin American societies. On the one hand, it focuses on those literary movements that raised this problem and addressed it through various programs, such as indigenism or production in native languages. On the other hand, it confronts the different instances of formulation of a heterogeneous corpus that from a communitarian, popular, multilingual and multiethnic perspective denounces the ideology of miscegenation and its monolingual strategy. Finally, it calls into question the relationship between oral transmission and written transmission considering their differential possibilities and limitations, and collates the political-cultural programs raised by different intellectual teams.
