Historically, the design of explosion-resistant buildings has evolved from the use of isodamage diagrams and the use of equivalent static loads in conjunction with conventional static design methods, passing through simplified dynamic methods that take into account the dynamic characteristics of the structure and its ductility until reaching a coupled dynamic analysis of the pressure wave and its interaction with the structure. Depending on the design stage and the type of structural component, it is convenient to combine the different approaches to arrive at the final design. This paper presents an application of the different levels of analysis to the design of a reinforced masonry construction subjected to accidental explosions. Verification of the design based on a simplified dynamic analysis using an explicit dynamic simulation of the structure, allows to evaluate the safety margins associated with the simplified dynamic method. In the work, the solicitations corresponding to a design accident are obtained numerically and the reinforced structural elements are dimensioned and verified to withstand said solicitations with a certain level of damage but protecting the safety of people inside the construction.
