This paper presents the results of a comprehensive project conducted on the archaeological miniatures from the Benjamín Muniz Barreto Collection, housed in the Archaeology Division of the Museo de La Plata. The primary objective was to ensure their long-term preservation through preventive conservation strategies, detailed documentation, and digital cataloging. The methodology involved assessing the conservation status via visual inspections, recording data on individualized technical sheets, and photographing existing damage. Based on these assessments, preventive measures were implemented, including the improvement of storage conditions, the use of inert packing materials, and the stabilization of objects through minimal intervention treatments. Thanks to funding provided by the Fondo Nacional de las Artes, a digital catalog was developed, offering comprehensive information on each piece alongside high-resolution artistic photographs. In parallel, new images were produced following specific protocols established by the Archaeology Division, and detailed object descriptions were prepared for integration into the Division’s digital repository, Culturalis. These initiatives not only contribute to the material preservation of the collection but also enhance opportunities for scientific research and the dissemination of Argentina’s pre-Columbian archaeological heritage.
