This paper aims to contrast and demonstrate both the explicative and predictive power of a Scientific Research Programme in parasitology taking as empirical evidence the parasitic fauna of the Pampas fox (Lycalopex gymnocercus). The epistemological frame of reference is the proposal of Imre Lakatos that establishes the characteristics that a Scientific Research Programme must complete and is applied to a biological discipline, parasitology, clearly defining its components (hard core, protective belt of auxiliary hypotheses and initial conditions), showing the heuristic value for the present and future work in the discipline. The biological characteristics of those found parasitic taxa in the Pampas fox can test the scientific research programme in parasitology. The proposal based on the trophic characteristics of the hosts (intermediate and definitive) confirms that the Scientific Research Programme analyzed is progressive and applicable to the parasitological theory and practice.
