The relation between social inequality and crime is a topic that the critical thinking should examine to consider the hegemonic discursive configurations and its ways of understanding the world. From the widening of the field of human rights, the social inequality results in a serious damage to the access to the econo-mic, social and cultural rights, which are also produced and reproduced through discursive configurations. Thus, accounting for the ways in which conceptions of the unequal are cons-tructed and, simultaneously, how the material conditions of possibility and existence of this inequality are hidden by literature, analyzing the verbal composition and its ideological implications, contributes to problematize hegemonic discursive configurations. In this paper, we consider two paradigmatic moments of Argentinean literary field: José Hernández’s El gaucho Martín Fierro (published in 1872), and its latest literary re-elaboration, Oscar Fariña’s El guacho Martín Fierro (published in 2011). This let us observe at the Argentinean literary tradition how the culture is asked about these issues and at the same time it asks about its social and political role. We propose, then, to read this recent text in dialogue with its ante-cedent of the nineteenth century to interrogate them and ask ourselves about the way in which crime and social inequality appear to us in cultural productions
