The vitamin D is present in a variety of foods and can also be obtained from the skin by non-enzymatic photolysis. Then vitamin D circulates binded to a specific transport protein and receives two hydroxylations, one at the liver level and one at the renal level, thus transforming in an active vitamin. In recent years hypovitaminosis was observed, according to different studies, in 40% to 50% of populations in different regions, which implies a public health problem. In recent years appeared numerous basic research studies and studies in humans which altered the absorption of vitamin D by target cells that demonstrated the effects of hypovitaminosis on cardiovascular pathologies. This was the starting point of the studies of supplementation effects in the population, and the research in the pathophysiology of hypovitaminosis D in the damage of cardiovascular system
