The Oro Basin (Buenos Aires, Argentina) presents a fluvial dynamic in which, in the face of extreme precipitation events, floods occur that generate an impact on the population. In the study of these problems, landscape analysis is positioned as an appropriate category since it allows the elements to be integrated under a systemic perspective. Through the analysis of the fluvial landscape it is possible to identify different units: patches, matrices and corridors for their subsequent characterization. The aim of this paper is to characterize the structure of the landscape of the Oro basin to recognize the distribution of plant species and how they influence runoff during flood episodes. The main results indicate that the typical vegetation of the Pampas grassland presents qualities that allow mitigating the effects of floods while the introduced tree species generate obstacles that increase the negative effects.
