During the process of developed specific musculoskeletal models from medical imaging, image segmentation plays a key role, because the efficiency of these models depends on the segmentation techniqueused to obtain the structures of interest. When develop automatic segmentation algorithms, which incorporate a priori knowledge of the structure to be segmented, the training image sets must been previously segmented. Generally this segmentation is performed manually by a medical expert, which should delineate each structure in each image of the different training sets, making this work exhausting and highly timeconsuming. This paper presents a semi-automatic segmentation algorithm based on Dijkstra's shortest paths algorithm, which can be used by the medical expert to process training image sets. By applying this algorithm we achieves a significant reduction of processing time while maintaining a high specificity and sensitivity in obtaining the regions of interest.
