The heterogeneity of contemporary worlds challenges us to rethink theories of communication. The key concepts of communication, culture and hegemony are taken up here from their relationships with false cognates. A reconceptualization is proposed based on the idea that heterogeneity is constitutive of all communication processes. Just this need raises the contrast between contact and understanding to study communication processes. That same challenge destabilizes the classical notions of “culture”. Again, the question is theoretical thinking critically tensions between frames within which specific logical instituted between the parts. In turn, power and hegemony are constitutive of the dynamics of contact and understanding, as well as the relationships between the parts and the whole. The visions that postulate the absolute autonomy of the popular as well as claiming the opposite almighty closures circulation of meaning, require other theoretical slits to allow the institute from other languages potentialities of emancipatory projects.
