Starting from some contemporary narratives, this article aims to explore how the Chaco War experience (1932-1935) configured two ways of narrating the unknown. Depending on perspective, the unknown could be the territory (Chaco) or the moment (the historical event). Those ways of narrating have to do with (1) the territory as an experience of inmensity and (2) the measurement of time as cyclical timing. In order to explore these items, I propose a corpus of contemporary, both literary and ethnographic, narratives, as well as their relation to some classical authors. I consider that this comparison might demonstrate and disassemble centenary imaginaries that still configure literarian symbols and subjectivation.
