The article traces and analyzes the context of the formation of the Argentine Republic as a nation during the nineteenth century, the reasons for the arrival of immigrants from Europe and in particular of Italian architects and technicians who worked during the process of expansion and economic growth in the period between 1870 and 1930. To analyze the complexity of this period, three fundamental themes were chosen which highlight the importance of Italian immigration: the construction of buildings in large cities resulting from the amalgam of traditional typologies and the contribution of architects and master builders of the Peninsula; the choice of Italian architecture as a symbol of power by the elite and the turning point in the early twentieth century which presupposes, in the Italian community, the appearance of an architectural expression focused on liberty and modernist eclecticism that tried to leave a mark in the new metropolis that had turned into a place of dispute between the different languages.
