This article will analyze the articulation between housing policies and a housing cooperative in the city of Rosario in the early 1990s. Through the recovery of the story of the creators of the association, mainly its members and technicians, we will explore the instances of dialogue and conflict generated by the self-construction process. Based on the ethnographic work carried out in the cooperative’s community center, it seeks to build other perspectives on the implementation of alternative housing policies and their impact on the organization of housing cooperatives. To this end, the property regularization programs of informal settlements, developed by these policies, will be presented. To then seek their influences in the experience of the Rosario cooperative, through self-construction in their first homes. Finally, the self-construction process will be analyzed, on the one hand, from housing projects and designs. And, on the other hand, from the organization of self-constructive work, the forms of organization developed by its members will be investigated.
