Abstract

The article recovers certain debates on the potentialities and risks involved in contemporary collaborative artistic practices, and focuses on Fome de resistência, a work by the Alagoan artist Jonathas de Andrade and the Mẽbêngôkre-Kayapó women painters of the Pukany Village, Menkragnoti territory in southern Pará, Brazil. In this proposal, the photographic record of the intervention of the old maps with the ancestral paintings of the menires, the women who inhabit these lands, formulates an interweaving of languages, knowledge and affections capable of mobilizing questions about the sedimentation of certain representations and ways of relating. From the study of the background, procedures and staging of the work, we observe the ways in which this intervention participates in the discussions on the limitations of the hegemonic regime of Western cartography to account for the ways in which existence is woven in the Mẽbêngôkre-Kayapó communities. In this line, the readings on the ambiguities and the diverse folds of the work allow us to repair the potentialities of the proposals that are based on forms of listening less inclined to uniformity, and more attentive to the opacities and variations as inputs to imagine other forms of coexistence.
