In this paper the reason for travelling in El último domingo de un caminante (2003) by Jesus Urzagasti is analized as an element that generates the stereotypes deconstruction. The various movements of the main character build a universe whose distinctive feature is the discovery of the diversity of hidden cultures, silenced after the American conquest and colonization. The novel deals with three types of travels of the main character: a professional one, another into himself, and finally a literary one. All converge in an overflow path towards the knowledge of the subjects that inhabit the virgin territory of Great Bolivian Chaco. This overflow is understood as an overrun of fixed forms imposed by Western thought. The notion of stereotypes proposed by Homi Bhabha (2013) and different conceptualizations about travel stories are the theoretical axes that guide this analysis.
