The aim of this article is to present and discuss the contributions that Gabriel Tarde makes to the problematization of “conducting”, understood in relation to the matrix of the notion of “imitation”. Unfolded in a double register of analysis - logical-abstract and historical-social -, in the reading that we propose here, his contributions recognize four main directions. Firstly, in the postulation of the “conducting” relationship, as an ontological premise of every human society. Secondly, in the frm statement of the primacy (logical and historical) of the unilateral forms of conduction over the reciprocal ones. In the third place in the characterization of the transformations that conducting practices assumed since the development of modernity, as well as the recognition of ultra-activity, in post-traditional societies, of “political fascination”. And, fourthly, in the early approaches that Tarde made regarding metamorphosis in the techniques of political persuasion.
