In this paper, we will highlight the peculiar features that distinguish the Cantar de Mio Cid from other medieval epic poems, insofar as it deviates from the most common clichés: maturity, moderation, the relevance of the female characters, joviality, and materialism. We will try to reflect on the cause of these deviations, emphasizing the relationship between the pairs of moderation/ immoderation and materialism/ transcendence.
