Religious beliefs are often a relevant dimension among broad sectors of the population with whom social workers engage. They may also be present, in various forms—including through denial or stigmatization—among students and professionals in Social Work. The main objective of the work is to understand and describe the experiences and perspectives of students enrolled in the Social Work degree at the National University of Moreno (UNM) regarding their pre-professional practices in socio-religious organizations. Using a hermeneutic interpretative paradigm and a qualitative perspective, the study adopted a flexible and descriptive design. The units of analysis were students from the UNM Social Work program who carried out their pre-professional practices in socio-religious organizations between 2019 and 2023. Secondary sources included databases from the program's practice centers, while primary sources consisted of twenty in-depth interviews. These were analyzed using a qualitative data matrix, generating categories and properties. The study found that students often held religious beliefs, though generally with weak institutional ties. There were also assumptions suggesting that scientific knowledge necessarily involves questioning religion—especially in its institutional form. Practices conducted in these settings have the potential to challenge and/or transform the perceptions and meanings associated with one's own religious beliefs, those of the individuals being assisted, and the socio-religious organizations involved. However, students appear to lack theoretical tools to support the analysis and critical examination of these experiences.
