The province of Santa Fe, in the region known as “Cuña Boscosa,” includes approximately 10,000 km² of forests that constitute the southernmost portion of the Humid Chaco ecoregion. From an ornithological perspective, the importance of this area has been recognized through its designation as an Important Bird Area (IBA). In this contribution, we report a new species for the province of Santa Fe, the Plain Tyrannulet (Inezia inornata), which was found nesting in the area, and we confirm the presence of four species previously known only from isolated records without documented evidence (Buteo brachyurus, Nyctidromus albicollis, Falco rufigularis) or from very old records (Leptodon cayanensis). The records were obtained at five sites within the Cuña Boscosa, in the Humid Chaco ecoregion. However, in most cases (B. brachyurus, L. cayanensis, N. albicollis), these species are associated with humid forests more typical of the Paraná biogeographic province. In contrast, during its stay in the area, I. inornata seems to utilize the edges of xerophytic forests characteristic of the Chaco. The nest found represents the third documented nest of the species throughout its entire range, providing the novel record of nest construction shared by both sexes. Breeding evidence was also documented for F. rufigularis. These records contribute to the knowledge of bird diversity in the southernmost part of the Humid Chaco, in the province of Santa Fe, and reinforce the region’s value for its role in the conservation of the Gran Chaco.
