In several works J. Habermas has explained and defended a particular dialectical connection between the concepts of theory and praxis which sinks its roots in the controversial project of retaking the modern rationalist enlightenment path as a sufficient response to the crisis of democratic legitimacy produced by the contemporary libertarian technocratic policies. In this article we propose to critically asses the Habermasian idealistic discursive connection between ideal theory and non ideal practice warning that it constitutes an inefficient and undesirable proposal of solution to that crisis. Instead we defend the adoption of a neorepublican reflexive connection of both terms which we consider a hypothetically acceptable and sustainable response to the current non-ideal normative conditions.
