This article is intended to analyze the pedagogical magazine Quimán, produced by the teachers’ union Unión de Trabajadores de la Educación de Río Negro (UnTER), which was edited between the years 1987-1989 and was presented as a means of divulgation, training and political instruction for teachers in the Rio Negro province. The purpose of this article is to confront the different postures regarding rural education: one, based on regulations and official discourses, and the other, the one the union UnTER adopted by means of its own press. As a hypothesis, it is believed that while education politics promoted a definition of rural education founded on a civilizing/homogenizing and difference-integrating order –with the purpose of creating a national conscience– since its beginning, Quimán magazine positioned itself discursively on a social, dynamic and heterogeneous view, which sought to problematize and promote other meanings and alternatives related to its definition and implementation, with the objective of establishing a rural pedagogy.
