La mala lectura: mujeres y novelas en la cultura de entresiglos

Abstract

Leídas con devoción y criticadas con persistente afán a lo largo del tiempo, las novelas desatan polémicas, propician reflexiones y diálogos entre los escritores y el público en diferentes épocas. El siguiente trabajo reflexiona acerca del género y su evolución, desde finales del siglo XVIII, en Europa y América, hasta la trama de comienzos y mediados del siglo XX. ¿Qué relación particular establecieron las lectoras del pasado con las novelas? ¿Cómo se tramitó el debate acerca del valor estético y el valor moral de una obra? Exploramos estos interrogantes atendiendo al cruce entre literatura, artes plásticas y cine en la Argentina.Devotedly read and persistently criticized trough time, novels give rise to controversies and contribute to reflections and dialogues between the writers and their public in different times. This work discusses the genre and its evolution, from the end of the 18th century, in Europe and America, to the early and mid-20th century. Which particular relationship did the female readers of the past establish with novels? How was the debate about the aesthetic and moral value of a literary work handled? These questions will be explored attending to crossovers between literature, plastic arts and cinema in Argentina.
