The quantity and quality of the published research in microbiology by Argentinean authors from 1987 to 2009, was estimated employing bibliometric parameters. The absolute and relative production, the impact, and the geographic distribution were determined. It was established that the Argentinean scientific production in microbiology showed a constant increase. It was also found that the National Universities and the CONICET had the publications with the highest impact factors while the Argentinean Hospitals and private institutions had very low production and influence in the microbiology research.
