Origin’s Chapter VIII: Darwin for and Against Hybridism

Abstract

The aim of this chapter is to provide a didactic discussion of Chapter 8 of Darwin´s The Origin of Species, dedicated to "hybridism", rendering its context accessible for undergraduate students, along the general guidelines of the book, namely, helping the reader identifies the main concepts and ideas, explicitly addressing meta-scientific issues, and, whenever relevant, signaling, in footnotes, aspects that somehow remained or were discarded either by the Modern Synthesis or by the theory´s later developments.
