Currently, more than 7,000 languages are spoken worldwide-6,700 of which are indigenous languages-and it is estimated that almost half of them are in danger of disappearing during this century (UNESCO, 2010). The task of linguistic documentation of endangered indigenous languages and the creation of documentary resources available in digital repositories is thus an urgent task. They not only contribute to the preservation and dissemination of the linguistic and cultural heritage associated with these languages, but also to the broadening of access to the data collected for community, scientific, educational and dissemination purposes. In this paper, I present a brief overview of language documentation and its applications in educational and linguistic revitalization processes. In particular, I focus on the documentation of the Nivaĉle language (Mataguayan language family, Argentine and Paraguayan Chaco) and on the creation of digital documentary resources on the language hosted in national and international repositories.
