In this paper we propose a critical review of Gilles Deleuze thought guided by the concept image. The double meaning of the image in his writings leads us to differentiate between the image as a synthesis of time outlined in his texts about films and the image as representational thought that submits philosophy to the principles of common sense, criticized in Difference and repetition. Thus, not only we show that, for Deleuze, the image can enhance or blind the thought, but also we present a challenge to critique of common sense that Deleuze presents as a starting point of philosophical thought in Difference and repetition. Deleuze’s image, in its two senses, suggests two different ways of relationship with common sense that can be confronted with each other. In this paper, we present the counterpoint between Deleuze images. Through this confrontation it is possible to question the demolition of common sense suggested in “The image of thought” but also the absence of violence in the relationship with the common sense that the idea of thought as plane of immanence implies.
