Memorias colectivas que movilizan: reflexiones a partir del cierre de Metalúrgica Tandil

Abstract

Nos proponemos reflexionar sobre la fertilidad política de la memoria colectiva, entendiendo por ello cómo los imaginarios compartidos sobre el pasado pueden movilizar acciones colectivas para su defensa. Nos referimos puntualmente a la memoria de una “sociedad salarial” pasada y su incidencia en las protestas desarrolladas por trabajadores ante el avance de la ofensiva neoliberal, que precariza y desmantela el modelo de trabajo asalariado, estable y protegido. Este análisis lo realizamos a partir del estudio del caso de la movilización social realizada en 2018 en Tandil ante el cierre de la fábrica Metalúrgica Tandil, tras 70 años de actividad. Lo particular de esta protesta es que, a diferencia de otras realizadas en la ciudad, contó con una masiva participación. Nuestro supuesto es que este apoyo social se dio por el lugar emblemático que ocupa esta fábrica en la memoria colectiva que conforma la identidad local, y por su evocación en un contexto de restauración neoliberal que terminó de desmantelar el sistema industrial local. Este estudio de caso cualitativo se realizó a partir de entrevistas a referentes sindicales locales y del análisis de fuentes periodísticas locales y nacionales.Our aim is to reflect on the political fertility of collective memory, understanding by this how shared imaginaries about the past can mobilize collective actions for its defense. We specifically refer to the memory of a past "wage society" and its impact on the protests carried out by workers against the advance of the neoliberal offensive, which makes precarious and dismantles the model of salaried, stable and protected employment. We carry out this analysis based on of the case study of the social mobilization that took place in Tandil in 2018 in response to the closure of the Metalúrgica Tandil factory, after 70 years of activity. The particular thing about this protest is that, unlike others carried out in the city, it had a massive participation. Our assumption is that this social support was given by the emblematic place of this factory in the collective memory that makes up the local identity, and by its evocation in a context of neoliberal restoration which ended up dismantling the local industrial system. This qualitative case study was carried out based on interviews with local union leaders and the analysis of local and national journalistic sources.
