The only known stable freshwater population of southern river otters in Argentina is found in the Nahuel Huapi National Park. To assess the current situation of the “huillín”, fourteen sites (50–600 m) were visited. These sites are located along the coasts of the Alicurá reservoir, downstream from where the Limay river meets the Traful river. The species was found in a sector influenced by the Alicurá dam, and near fish farms. This evidences the need to study their effects as new potential threats for the recolonization of the “huillín” in the basin, and promote a coordinated conservation-policies between the involved authorities.
