Concentration camp and exile are two typical forms of violence and exclusion that demand to be studied from a transversal and transnational perspective, since they were very frequent throughout the twentieth century in various contexts of European and Latin American dictatorships and totalitarian regimes. The aim of this essay is to reflect on two testimonial narratives that link both experiences, the concentration camp and exile: testimonies written by Spanish Republicans who arrived in French concentration camps after crossing the northern border when the Civil War ended in 1939 and testimonies written by survivors of the last military dictatorship in Argentina who had to leave the country after staying in “centros de detención clandestinos”. We will analyze the representation of the situation of geographical dislocation that causes other dislocations to the witnesses related to emotional integrity.
