Resumen

Supplementary irrigation is rapidly expanding in northeastern Santa Fe, Argentina, although its effects on soil organic carbon (SOC) dynamics remain poorly documented. The objective of this study was to evaluate the effect of supplementary irrigation on SOC stocks. Irrigated and rainfed fields were compared at three agricultural sites in northeastern Santa Fe. Soil organic carbon stocks were determined down to 60 cm depth. At all sites, SOC decreased with depth and no significant differences were detected between irrigated and rainfed treatments for total SOC stock (0–60 cm). Observed SOC values ranged from 60 to 66 Mg C ha⁻¹ and were consistent with previous regional reports.
